Winners of the INNOVAR 2014 were announced

The Minister of Science, Lino Barañao, presented today the prizes for the nine categories of the National Innovation Competition in Tecnopolis. $1 million was distributed in 51 prizes.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, with the coordinator of the National Programme for the Popularization of Science and Innovation of the scientific portfolio, Vera Brudny, presented today the prizes of the tenth edition of the National Innovation Competition INNOVAR 2014 in the Predio Ferial de Tecnópolis. 51 distinctions divided into nine categories proposed by the competition were awarded. agribusiness, food, medical equipment, technology aimed at disability, energy and phytomedicine, innovative product, applied research and innovation in university. Also, the grand "INNOVAR" award was presented.

"This tenth edition has a distinctive note: perseverance. To celebrate ten years is quite remarkable, because it shows a continuity and sustained political commitment to science, technology and innovation”, said Barañao.

The Minister also emphasized that INNOVAR "is a bet of our management that aims to technological and scientific creativity" and that projects of the competition "serve to show what science and technology are used for and their impact in a specific form". Finally he addressed the participants and said that "everyone who competed is part of this historical process that results in this country model based on knowledge".

The winners of the tenth edition of INNOVAR 2014 are:

INNOVAR Distinction for $120,000.

Multifunctional platform for in-situ detection of infectious diseases - Carlos A. Moina - $60,000.      

VIREST: a remedy for viral conjunctivitis" – Laura Alché - $60,000.

This project also earned a gold medal and a certification of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The exhibition, organized by the Programme began on Monday November 10 and ended today with the presentation of prizes. During the conference, audience could visit more than 240 competing projects notable for their design, technology and degree of originality. Also, 40 projects from earlier editions were exhibited.

INNOVAR seeks to boost the development of innovative enterprises, promote the transfer of knowledge and technology to products and processes that improve the quality of life of society and motivate the interest of the young people in science, technology and innovation. Since its launch in 2005 until its last edition in 2013, 19,816 projects were presented.
