The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao informed about an agreement between the portfolio he manages, through the Federal Council for Science and Technology (COFECYT), the National Council Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of the Province of Catamarca for the enhancement of one of the most important archaeological sites in our country. El Shincal of Quimivil. As part of the presentation on November Saturday 30th at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Science Minister outlined the initiatives for the enhancement of the pre-Columbian city built in the fifteenth century. The ceremony was also attended by the Secretary of Culture, Jorge Coscia; the CONICET president, Roberto Salvarezza and the COFECYT General Secretary, Hugo De Vido.

El Shincal is located in the Department of Belen, 6 km northwest of the city of Londres, province of Catamarca and represents one of the most important provincial Inca sites within the Tawantinsuyu. It is composed by three small isolated hills with buildings on its slopes. The main part of the ruins consists of a series of rectangular enclosures whose stone walls reach over two meters high. The site was planned not only as a political and administrative capital but also as a ceremonial center. El Shincal preserves not only the Inca archaeological ruins but also a true botanical garden of native species and fauna. Knowledge and understanding of the origins of the societies that inhabited there are of vital importance for all humankind.

During the ceremony, Barañao said: "When I visited El Shincal I was impressed not only by its magnificence but also by the passion of those who were related to the area, by the sense of belonging, because it is part of the cultural legacy expropriated to a lot of people". The Minister added: "Before the arrival of the Spanish, the Inca Empire had a political structure that used the technology they had at that time to ensure the quality of life of people. That is the same speech we have now, several centuries later". "What we are trying to do is a task of enhancement of this heritage. It is an act of historical reparation; to recover El Shincal is to recuperate the identity" Barañao concluded.

To carry out these initiatives, the Ministry of Science, through the COFECYT, the CONICET, the Government of the Catamarca Province and the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina signed a cooperation agreement which provides a joint work to add value, restore and promote the science dissemination of the archaeological site. The initiative seeks to inform the importance and the cultural connotation of El Shincal. To this purpose, scientific research will be promoted, the recovery and the creation of an interpretive and tourism infrastructure center will be created. Additionally, the ministry of Science and the Natural History Foundation Félix de Azara entered into an agreement aimed at enhancing efforts to disseminate El Shincal, working on the research and restoration of architectural remains and everything that contributes to the recovery of the footsteps of our ancestors.

An audiovisual documentary produced by CONICET, entitled "Shincal, the Inca footprint", with images of the archaeological site, was exhibited during the launch event. At the ceremony were also present: the director of Tourism Investments of the Ministry of Tourism, Elena Blasi; the Secretary of State of Tourism of the Province of Catamarca, María Natalia Ponferrada and the Under Secretary of the House of Catamarca at Buenos Aires, Yanina Martínez.
