On Tuesday 24 more than 300 people attended the event, "Tango and Malbec" in the Argentinean Pavilion at BIO 2014, one of the most important biotechnology fairs in the world. The booth, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, brings together more than 20 Argentinean companies, laboratories, chambers of industry and government agencies

The BIO 2014 takes place from June 23 to 26 in the city of San Diego, California, United States of America. During these three days, the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), through its Office of Technology Transfer, will meet with companies and associations interested in product technological supply, capacities and services of the Council.

"The first day of meetings was largely positive" Santiago Villa says, director of the CONICET Technology Linkage. He explains that the technologies that were of most interest were the platforms for diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases and cancer, plant biotechnology solutions, veterinary products and functional foods.

For Graciela Ciccia from the Argentinean Chamber of Biotechnology, participation in the BIO and in the Argentinean pavilion allows to link different actors in the sector: "The Chamber brings together companies spanning different biotechnology fields, from the pharmaceutical industry, production of genetically modified organisms and biofuels, as well as diagnostic reagents and food", she says According to Ciccia, the core of the chamber is not only gathering companies but also promoting linkage with the national scientific and technological system.

In turn, Eliseo Gonzalez, director of the Center for Molecular Diagnostics, highlights the importance of interaction between the different participants in the pavilion during the Convention: "In those days an important community of information transfer is formed, where potential customers are derived to each of the leaders of goods or services in these areas", he analyzes. Gonzalez says that the Center for Molecular Diagnostics participates since four years ago in BIO and from those experiences the company not only achieved a position in the regional market, but also allowed them to keep abreast of the latest developments and scientific advances in the biotechnology sector.
