With the motto “The challenge of knowledge”, Tecnópolis celebrated on Saturday the arrival of the family which raised the visits counter to 4,000,000. The minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, led the celebration, joined by Javier Grossman, executive director of the Bicentennial Executive Unit.

The celebration took place in the arched entry of the park, where people could enjoy the acrobats of the air dance Group Prix D’ami with the rhythm of the percussion band Cafundó and the “murga” 14 bis. Around 15:25 the moment occurred when a young family of the City of Buenos Aires, from the neighborhood of Chacarita, formed by María del Mar Herrero and Ariel Pérez Cerviño, with their two daughters, Frida who is 1 year old and Charo who is 2, were the ones who completed the 4,000,000 visits to the park. The family was received with the rhythm of drums and a rain of colored papers and took a ride on a crane below the arched entry of Tecnópolis, where they were greeted by the Minister of Science, Lino Barañao.

“Four million visitors is quite a substantial number, which had never before been reached by any event in Argentina. This is not an amusement park, it is a fair which nourishes the spirit. We all need information, and much the same as there is junk food, there also is junk information. At Tecnópolis what we are providing is highly nutritive information for the development of everybody and young people in particular”, remarked minister Barañao. Moreover, he explained: “What we want is that young people who come here may see that they have a future in our country, that if they study scientific-technological careers they will have a guaranteed future, they will have work and will also create work for others. This is the country model behind Tecnópolis and the country model which we are promoting from our Ministry”.

During the entry of the visitors, some figures of the mega exhibition were disseminated: 10,000 school groups and more than 400,000 children passed by Tecnópolis; there were 480 inventions exposed in INNOVAR; the Mint delivered more than half a million commemorative medals of Houssay, Leloir and Milstein; Aerolíneas Argentinas made 180,000 flights from Villa Martelli, and more than 130,000 people visited the Human Body exhibition, an incredible exposition prepared exclusively for the 2013 edition of Tecnópolis and which the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation made accessible to the public.

Tecnópolis 2013 is organized by the Bicentennial Executive Unit of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Nation and may be enjoyed from Wednesdays to Sundays from 12 to 20, free and open to the public. The exhibition is located in Villa Martelli and has already received more than 4,000,000 visits from its opening to the present edition.
