"Science goes" play and learn activities

Within the framework of the XII National Week of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science held in La Matanza science workshops aimed to approaching children to scientific reasoning. The activity will run until November 19.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, through the National Programme for the Popularization of Science and Innovation, organized until tomorrow "Science goes", a proposal aimed at popularizing science at initial-level children. It takes place in the South Decentralized Municipal Region located in La Matanza and consists of workshops to teach scientific thinking through games and experimental approaches devised by scientists There are four activities: “"Supermoco", "Circuits", "Light and color" and "Perceptions”.

The "Supermoco" activity is to manufacture an elastic mass so that children discover what ingredients are responsible for the sticky texture. The "Circuits" proposal tries to explain basic concepts of electricity through experiments with wires and lights. The "lights and colors" workshop seeks through flashlights with colored filters and spots, mix different colors and discover how they are created. Finally, "Perceptions" explains the properties of our senses.

During her visit, the programme coordinator, Vera Brudny said: "workshops were intended to teach children concepts and tools of scientific thought from recreational activities. The purpose is to play to build models in a similar way than a scientist. The fact that they can think their own experiments and work with their own hands not only entertain them, but also approach them to important aspects of science. "

In yesterday morning workshops involving over 50 students between 11 and 12 years from School No. 145 "Fray Luis Beltrán" from Virrey del Pino, La Matanza were performed. During the afternoon the activity was repeated with students of the School No. 198 "Atahualpa Yupanqui" of the same town.

The activity will run until June 19 and is held in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Education Policy and the School Council of La Matanza. Also, the Decentralized Municipal South Region of the Municipality of La Matanza provided facilities for the execution of "Science goes”.

The National Programme for the Popularization of Science and Innovation seeks to deepen the approach of science and innovation to society in order to contribute to the social appropriation of knowledge. The programme also aims to stimulate scientific and technological vocations in young people, promote scientific culture and contribute to the understanding of the importance of research and its results for the development of society through the implementation of actions as National Week of Science and Technology, the National Innovation Competition (INNOVAR), the Distinguished Investigator Award of the Nation and Science Clubs, among other initiatives.
