Participation in the Congress on Arsenic in the environment

The secretary of the Department of Planning and Policy, Ruth Ladenheim, directed the inauguration ceremony of this meeting. The Congress intends to interchange knowledge about arsenic and its influence on the environment.

The secretary of the Department of Planning and Policy in Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Ruth Ladenheim, was in charge of the opening ceremony of the 5th International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment (As2014 ) together with Norma Boero, president of the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA); Hugo Nicolli, honorary president of the As Argentina organizing committee; Marta Litter, president of As Argentina and Prosun Bhattacharya, member of the international organizing committee of As Argentina.

At her presentation, Ladenheim manifested her pride for the fact of our country being host of the fifth edition of the congress and she said that "during this decade, the scientific and technological system has received sustained support.Since 2003 investment in research and development at national level has increased more than 900% with an unprecedented increase in human resources devoted to science”. She also emphasized the funding instruments of the Ministry, "which are aimed not only to researchers but to companies working in innovation”. Finally, she explained that the ministry of Science supports "projects to test new theories of arsenic abatement in populations that are beyond the reach of drinking water" which stand for "involving social sciences:a new form of technology management to solve social and environmental problems based on the concept of social technology systems".

The Congress, held until May 16 in the auditorium of the building next to the School of Economics of the University of Buenos Aires, intends to integrate researchers involved in different study areas in an open forum, and to strengthen relations between academia, industry, research laboratories government agencies and the private sector. This atmosphere contributes to interchange knowledge, discoveries and discussions about a relevant topic such as arsenic in the environment.
