Official Opening of the Technological, Business and Social Innovation Centre

Minister Lino Barañao was present at the official opening ceremony, together with the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Jorge Capitanich and the President of CITES, Néstor Abatidaga. The event was held at the Corporate Office of Grupo Sancor Seguros in Sunchales, province of Santa Fe.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao participated, together with the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Jorge Capitanich at the launch of the Technological, Business and Social Innovation Centre (CITES) at the Grupo Sancor Seguros. The National Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Carlos Casamiquela, and the General Secretary of the Presidency, Oscar Parrilli, and the Presidential Spokesman, Alfredo Scoccimarro, the Secretary of Planning and Policies, Ruth Ladenheim, and the President of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) Roberto Salvarezza were present at this ceremony.

During this event, Capitanich highlighted the creation of the Ministry of Science and asserted that “there is a required relation between research, technological development, the improvement of the economy productivity, the search for new markets, the creation of good quality and sustainable employment opportunities, the creation of wealth, and what all of them mean for a macroeconomic model that is sustainable in the long run”. He also mentioned that more than 1000 scientists had already been repatriated and spoke about the growth since 2003 of science and technology budget share in the gross domestic product.

When the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers highlighted the value of CITES, he mentioned that "this scientific and technological platform is an incubator of companies, and it will naturally bring about an extraordinary impact on the productive, economic, and social development of Sunchales and the surrounding area”.

The CITES has the purpose of facilitating and encouraging the creation of new industries and companies that produce goods and services, as well as the increase of the existing technological capabilities, fostering technology transfer activities, promoting funding for the development of such technology-based projects, and developing and training the human resources required for such purposes. Its work will be based on four areas: Biotechnology, nanotechnology, computer work and engineering.

It is noteworthy that a few months ago, the CITES signed a framework cooperation agreement with the CONICET for strengthening research work at such Centre. With this public-private association, knowledge development will be leveraged, as well as the promotion of human resources, the transfer of results to the socio-productive sector, contributing to the country development, and following the guidelines included in the “Plan Argentina Innovadora 2020” (2020 Innovative Argentine Plan).
