The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Dr. Lino Barañao received this afternoon the “Gobbi de Oro”, the most important prize awarded by the National Academy of Tango, from its president, Horacio Ferrer. This award is granted for the dissemination, support and defence of tango as a cultural expression. The prize was made by the well-known sculptor Leo Vinci and has been given to recognised persons admired by the Academy.

Mr Barañao was very thankful for this award and said: “.this year I have been honoured, as I was awarded a prize by my peer members of the scientific community. This time I am receiving an award from other persons who do not share the same work, and this recognition exceeds the success one may have for one’s own work”.

He also asserted that “a few things can be so much associated with Argentina as the word tango; therefore, it is an asset we need to maintain, as it is one of the spines of our society”. Barañao said at the end of his speech that “this prize reaffirms my commitment to the National Academy of Tango, as I think we have a bright future to build.”

It is noteworthy that the Secretariat of Scientific and Technological Articulation from the Ministry of Science coordinates the relation between the Ministry and 21 national academies that were transferred from the Ministry of Education in October 2008, fulfilling different needs expressed by them. The National Academy of Tango of Argentina was introduced on June 29, 1990 at the Golden Room at the Colon Theatre, and Horacio Ferrer was its creator and first president.

At the end of the ceremony, the Academy Tango Orchestra played for the audience, directed by Fabián Bertero.
