Barañao presented the "RAICES" and the "Luis Federico Leloir" awards to the international cooperation in science and technology

The Minister of Science, Lino Barañao, participated in the awards ceremony which honored 23 scientists promoting the strengthening of science in our country.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao presented today the V edition of the "Luis Federico Leloir" and the "RAICES" awards to the international cooperation in science and technology During the ceremony 10 scientists received the “RAICES” award and 13 researchers received the “Luis Federico Leloir” award. The ceremony, organized by the National Directorate of International Relations, was attended by its director, Agueda Menvielle.

Barañao said that these awards "talk about the great work we have done to create conditions so that Argentine human resources proliferate and different areas of science articulate".

In this context, Barañao said that these awards "talk about the great work we have done to create conditions so that Argentine human resources proliferate and different areas of science articulate". He also explained that the RAICES programme "aims to establish ties with members of both local and international scientific system to achieve greater functionality and expansion of results". At closing, the Minister highlighted the role of affects "in benefit of a community passionate and involved with science".

It is worth mentioning that the “RAICES” award is aimed at Argentinean scientists living abroad and that have contributed for strengthening networking and scientific and technological capabilities of our country. While, the "Luis Federico Leloir” award recognizes foreign persons who have made a significant contribution to increasing international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation with our country. 

The winners of the “RAICES” awards of this edition were: Sebastián Ceria; Luis Chiappe; Alicia Amparo Durán Carrera; Juan Carlos Garavaglia; Juan Lértora; Alejandro Manelli; Andrea Pagni; Enrique Rodríguez- Boulan; Lucía Rothman Denes and Juana Wietzerbin.

The winners of the “Luis Federico Leloir” awards were: Carlos Belmonte Martínez; César Casquet; Serge Demers; Viktor Klima; Jozef Dulak; Ernesto García Camarero; Richard Kay; Herbert Jäeckle; Rosalía Méndez Otero; Gabriele Paparo; Jean-Marie Ruysschaert; Jayme Luiz Szwarcfiter and Patrice Vermeren.  

Meanwhile, this morning, at the Scientific and Technological cluster, the laurated researchers made scientific presentations on their study subject and research lines. During the opening of the meeting, Menvielle said about the awards that "it is a very important and strategic event" and she explained that "in 2010 the Minister Barañao wanted to bring something different, hence the prizes to cooperation with Argentina resulted to the whole society could internalize and know what he was doing and why they were chosen

The laureated scientists were selected through consultation from the National Directorate of International Relations of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, to persons from science in our country. The “Luis Federico Leloir” and “RAICES” awards are presented since 2010.

The awards bear their respective names in honor to the work performed by Luis Federico Leloir, Argentine doctor and biochemist who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1970 and the RAICES programme (Network of Argentine Researchers and Scientists Living Abroad) aimed at promoting repatriation and networking of Argentine scientists living abroad.
