The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Mr. Lino Barañao, opened in the province of Santa Fe, the new building of the Institute of Physics at Rosario (IFIR) under the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the National University of Rosario (UNR). The building, created under the Work Plan for Science and Technology being conducted by the Ministry of Science, required a total investment of $ 25,134,032 and covers an area of 3,100 square meters. The CONICET president, Mr. Roberto Salvarezza, the UNR Rector, Prof. Dario Maiorana and the IFIR director, Dr. Roberto Rivarola also participated in the event.

Barañao: "for the first time there are budget and political wellness to support science and technology, strengthening them and making them available to economic and social development”

With regard to the construction of new buildings for science in recent years, Barañao said that "for the first time there are budget and political wellness to support science and technology, strengthening them and making them available to economic and social development”. He also explained that "the science and technology recognition have only been possible in this period that changed the production model of our country" "in a model that aims to increase the GDP per capita on the basis of value added, we need a strong scientific model, dedicated to productive activity, as well as to the resolution of social needs" he added.

The President of the CONICET, Roberto Salvarezza said that "the CONICET perspective in these ten years has been growing, by the decision of a State visualizing the science and the technology as a component, as a development factor". He also added that "in this country, the science and technology development is one of the challenges lying ahead". "10% of researchers, professionals, support technicians and trainees live in Santa Fe", the head of CONICET concluded.

The new office is located on the campus shared by the Science and Technology Center CONICET Rosario and the UNR. Built in compliance with sustainable architecture standards, boasts four levels (basement, ground floor, first floor and second floor) composed of almost 800 square meters for new laboratories, more than 700 square meters for offices, about 300 square meters for deposits and 143 square meters divided between meeting room and library, including circulation spaces, services and operational areas.

The Institute of Physics at Rosario is devoted to research and development in all aspects related to physics, promoting the scientific and technological activity in both the basic sciences and in the applied sciences and related engineering. His research lines focuses on atomic collisions, atmospheric physics, solar radiation, biological effects and transmission processes, alternative energy, plasma physics, geophysics, condensed material, physical metallurgy, optical metrology, quantum theories and gravitation, and relativistic astrophysics and stellar dynamics, among others.

More than 120 people, including 45 researchers, 34 scholarships and 47 agents among support staff and operational areas were engaged in the IFIR.

Works for science and technology in Santa Fe

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, through the Work Plan for Science and Technology, opened in the province of Santa Fe the works for the French-Argentine International Center for Information and Systems Sciences (CIFASIS); the National Institute of Limnology ( INALI ), the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Rosario (IBR ), the Territorial Management Unit CONICET Rosary; the CONICET Science and Technology Center Rosario, the Science and Communication Research Institute (IRICE) , and the Institute of Physics in Rosario (IFIR). These works taken together required an investment of $ 63,079,473.

Currently the new headquarters of the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Litoral (IMAL), Institute of Research on Catalysis and Petrochemistry (INCAPE), the Institute of Technological Development for the Chemical Industry ( INTEC ) and the Institute of Agrobiotechnology of the Littoral are under construction. More than $ 22.8 million will be invested in the construction.

Finally, the plan provides for the construction of the Institute of Technological Development for the Chemical Industry - International Center for Computational Methods in Engineering (INTEC III - CIMEC), the Institute of Chemistry of Rosario (IQUIR) and a building to be shared by the Institute of Experimental Physiology (IFISE) and the Center for Photosynthetic and Biochemical Studies (CEFOBI). The committed budget for this work approximately amounts to $ 26 million.
