Barañao attended the Regional Meeting of Science and Technology in Salta

The Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation was part of the opening of the Regional Meeting of Science and Technology, held today at the Convention Center in Salta.

This morning, the Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Dr. Lino Barañao presided over the opening of the Regional Meeting of Science and Technology, where various strategic topics of regional interest were discussed, with the governor of the province of Salta, Dr. John M. Urtubey and Minister of Education, Science and Technology of that province, C.P.N. Roberto Dib Ashur.  Moreover, the Secretary of Planning and Policy of the Ministry of Science, Dr. Ruth Ladenheim, was in charge of the presentation of the "National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation, Innovative Argentina 2020". During the meeting, Dr. Barañao received from the governor the protocol record that declares him as Guest of Honor during his stay in the province of Salta.

Barañao: "the model of country we want to reach is one where education, science and technology are those that promote economic development"

During his speech, Barañao highlighted the achievements reached by the province regarding to science and technology and he explained that "the model of country we want to reach is one where education, science and technology are those that promote economic development" and he added that "the knowledge-based economy, in technology, makes better distribution of resources, so it is fairer and all that is a model of desirable society". Finally Barañao appreciated "the role that Argentina science begins to play after a decade of investment and a policy directive that comes from the President and that gives us the funds to carry out these activities". He also stressed out the role of the technological scientific careers since they are the ones that give the real possibility of social mobility".

Minister Dib Ashur made a review of the main initiatives under his portfolio and highlighted the support provided from the National Ministry of Science, through funding instruments provided by the National Agency for Science and Technology Promotion and the Federal Council for Science and Technology (COFECYT), among others. "In the province of Salta we consider very important the development of science and especially the role of productive innovation which is the primary cause of strategy economic development of the province". And he stated that "we seek a balanced development in each of the regions of the province of Salta".

After the opening, Dr. Ruth Ladenheim explained the scope of the Plan and said that "we are doing these presentations around the country" and he remarked that "it is a plan that aims to strengthen the State, through planning in parallel and in coordination with the plans of Industry, Agriculture, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Planning. He also added that "the Plan Argentina Innovadora 2020 has the distinction of being able to guide the scientific and technological system to the social and productive priorities that we identify for our country and for all regions, with emphasis on federalization but pointing to a structural transformation of our production matrix. We want a production matrix with companies being more intense in science, technology, knowledge, that is to say, with greater diversification".

After the presentation of the Plan, Baraño and Ladenheim accompanied by Dib Ashur attended the meeting of the Regional Council of Science and Technology of NOA (CRECYT - NOA), where concerns and issues of strategic interest for the development of the region were discussed.

During the visit to the province, the minister, accompanied by the mayor of the city of Salta, Miguel Isa, visited the facilities of methane gas generation and of waste selection of the San Javier Landfill, a project funded by the COFECYT. Also, the Mayor provided Dr. Barañao with a decree that declares him as Guest of Honor along with the keys to the city.  

It should be noted that in 2011, investment in research and development (R & D) in the province of Salta amounted to$ 140 million. This amount resulted in an increase of 523 % over 2003. The Ministry of Science has invested since 2007 in the province of Salta $ 27,351,114.17 in 59 projects through the National Agency for Science and Technology Promotion and from 2004 $ 7,019,135 in 31 projects of the Federal Council for Science and Technology (COFECYT). In addition, 9 scientists working in the province were repatriated, where also work 67 researchers, 42 professionals and support technicians and 132 scholars of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). Also, it is worth noting the $ 150,000 invested in the Works Plan for Science and Technology in the province of Salta for building of the Institute of Experimental Pathology.
