The National Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao and the National Minister of Education, Alberto Sileoni, subscribed this morning an agreement between the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the Secretariat of University Policies for implementing a Project for Training of Doctors in Engineering (EngD).  This document has also been subscribed by the Secretary of University Policies, Martín Gill, and the CONICET President, Mr Roberto Salvarezza, during a presentation on the progress of the actions developed along this year within the frame of the Strategic Plan for Training of Engineers 2012-2016, which was launched a year ago. The National Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Mr Carlos Casamiquela; the National Minister of Industry, Ms Débora Giorgi, and the National Secretary of Education, Jaime Perczyk.

The purpose of this project is to promote training of doctors in Engineering in fields of knowledge that are a priority for our country. For such purpose, a call is being organised to grant 50 specific scholarships for graduates of engineering careers who will receive a monthly fee payment that will be subject to the rules stated by the CONICET.

The Minister of Science highlighted this initiative by the Ministry of Education and pointed out that a parameter for measuring the degree of development of a country is the number of engineers it has. “To fulfil the needs of a society it is necessary to seek ways to promote students’ enrolment in such careers that are required for the development of a country”, asserted Minister Barañao. In this sense, within the frame of the Strategic Plan for Training of Engineers 2012-2016, he added: “It is important to implement actions promptly and convincingly to revert the deficit situation, such unsatisfied demand of engineers and programmers, and to get to a point where Argentina can change how it is inserted in the global economy. We are recognised because we have alternative manners of doing things which lets us build a country image that may be resorted to obtain alternative solutions and to develop irruptive technologies that let do things in different ways, in a more efficient and less expensive manner”.

It is noteworthy that the Strategic Plan for Training of Engineers has been launched by the Argentine President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, on November 5, 2012 in Tecnópolis. Its purpose is to carry out active policies to improve performance indicators of students from careers related to engineering to increase the number of graduates.
