The National Directorate of the Environment of the province of Santiago del Estero has been awarded ASETUR 2009 Project, through the Federal Council for Science and Technology (COFECyT) to increase the tourist attraction points in Termas de Rio Hondo, as it promotes spaces that are home to a wide range of natural species and raises awareness in tourists and the public in general of the benefits deriving from the natural conservation and sustainable use of resources.

This project involved building a bridge about 120 m long connecting the current coastline with the island to allow visitors’ access to the island. An elevated walkway was built inside the island, with its respective signals, which allows watching birds and the entire fauna and flora of the island.

Also, rest areas and standard signals indicating the area have been designed and installed.

This project also includes an Interpretation Center, where visitors will be informed about the natural and cultural history of this area, the socio-economic situation of the environment and the conservation of different components of this ecosystem.

The amount financed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, through the COFECyT, for the performance of the Tara Inti Reserve project was ARS 600,000.
